My name is Allen B. I live in California, and therefore I am not a patient of Onyx Reed — but she has been a close friend to my family for many years. Recently, I’ve been dealing with serious health issues — skin cancer that spread from my head into my neck — and navigating the California medical system has been overwhelming. Through it all, Onyx has guided me with incredible care and insight, taking the time to be present at every major appointment, even by speaker phone. One intensivist, based on the imaging, told me he believed I had lung cancer. He bluntly said I’d lived a long life and should just go on vacation and drink — essentially saying all hope was lost. Onyx stepped in and pointed out critical context that had been missed — including the fact that I have only one kidney, meaning contrast dye couldn’t be used, which made the imaging inconclusive. She suggested a full-body PET scan, which ultimately revealed that I have colon cancer, not lung cancer. That diagnosis gave me clarity and direction, and I now have surgery scheduled for June 17, 2025. I don’t know what the future holds. But without Onyx, I wouldn’t have even had a chance.
